I didn't have my glasses on.... 
I made my mum a copper fruit bowl in metalwork class, and she kept it until she died. I also made my dad a tie-rack in woodwork class, but he never fixed it into his wardrobe because the wood was a different colour.

Oh my gosh…yes! I remember! They became excellent doorstops…heavy clodhoppers intended to be ashtrays but never used (which was a good thing, I think) for their intended purposes. 😜

My mom smoked and probably used the ashtray I made. But they’re long gone. Mom went through the sky-door in 2012.

My parents still have a collection of wonky ashtrays molded by little fingers and painted in bright, ridiculous colors. No one in my house ever smoked, but they were great for collecting change.

My mother kept a glass jar I glued macaroni to, and then spray-painted gold, from my elementary school days. Made me smile every time I visited her as the years went on. It became the “keeper of all writing implements.”

Even in a non smoking household, we kept ash trays around for smokers. I guess we didn’t want them flicking ashes on the carpet or the good dishes.
