‘the souls of emperors and cobblers are cast from the same mold.’ michel de montaigne

Standard

i’ve recently seen not one, but two, outstanding cobbler shops

one in portugal

a combo cobbler shop and bar

and this one in my town

bursting with creativity

a good cobbler is a treasure

both an artist and a craftsman.

“i think most of us are raised with preconceived notions of the choices we’re supposed to make. we waste so much time making decisions based on someone else’s idea of our happiness – what will make you a good citizen or a good wife or daughter or actress. nobody says, ‘just be happy – go be a cobbler or go live with goats.’”

  1. Although at first reading Sandra Bullock’s quote seems like a good idea, on second thought, one must be responsible, creative and be able to be of service to his fellow man… One should not be so selfish as to seek the company of goats… Cheers and all the best!

  2. Oh, I do love the wisdom of Sandra Bullock (she says so many down-to-earth things), and I especially love cobbler’s windows. They are always dusty with stuff the cobbler has collected over the years. Much better, they seem to be saying, than putting the clients’ used shoes in the window!
