i absolutely love
that when this sidewalk was created
someone noticed the majestic tree
growing for many years
beautiful in its natural place
respected it
and cared enough
to create a sidewalk that curved around it
rather than taking the tree out
to match the straight path that was planned.

The mysterious journey never ends
Until that inevitable finale bend
George said it’s “A long and winding road”
And I’ll face life’s hard curves smoothly bowed

The curve respects nature and we respect the curve. You are so right, Beth.

I love that, too.
I am very disconcerted as I don’t know what’s going on Industrial street perpendicular to where I live. They have ripped out all the wild roses and lilacs. I am quite beside myself. The bicycle path remains but maybe they are installing some piping or something; I cannot tell at this point. I’m just verklempt at the loss of the bushes!!

You know what I adore about you, Beth? You see things. Good stuff all around you, including the sweet curve of this sidewalk, thinking about the people who had to make choices and chose well! Making me smile this morning, my friend! 🥰

That is so cool! Last summer, they took down a 60+ year old tree in front of the house to the west of us. Those of us who have known that tree for 50+ years, said prayers and cried. Sidewalk 1 – Tree 0

What a lovely street … so many large shady trees.
We had to have our trees trimmed this past spring and I can hardly bear to look around. Everything changes. We should have been doing it every year or so but is it ever expensive! They all look so crooked and bent over now. Kind of like me. :(

I much prefer to walk a winding, curving sidewalk any day over one that runs in a boring straight line. And, yes, saving a tree by simply skirting it is such a simple idea. I wish this would happen more often.

it just struck me when walking and I wove around the tree, and realized why

My first thought was what a great city to have built around that tree when so many cities would have just cut it down and run the sidewalk straight through.

We need more curves everywhere. Curves are beautiful, especially when they save threes and have surprises around the corner.
