who?

Standard
if you want a cool pen name, try using the pen name generator below-

mine is:  beatrice hazelton

although,

i did choose another pen name years ago, rebecca hunter

in case i ever wrote romance novels

even used it on a cross-country writing adventure trip

but kept forgetting my pen name

when my friend

 accompanying me as my photographer

called out ‘rebecca…’

sometimes awkward.

rule #1: if you’re going to use a pen name, you have to remember it.

‘i love it when people ask if jennifer weiner is a pen name. um…

if i wanted a pen name i could have done a lot better than this.’

-jennifer weiner, american author

What is a great author pen name?

I like Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler) because the whimsy of the name reflects the whimsy of his style.

Lemony Snicket isn’t just a pseudonym. It’s also a character. It’s quirky and wonderful that a writer would not just invent a name, but then write himself into his own fictional world. What better way to break the 4th wall than to have the book published under the name of the narrator?

“The name Lemony Snicket originally came from research for Handler’s first book, The Basic Eight. Handler wanted to receive material from organizations that he found “offensive or funny”, but did not want to use his real name, and invented “Lemony Snicket” as a pseudonym.”

  1. I got ‘Paxton Ravenshaw’. In England, that might be considered to be a tad pretentious, but it might suit a writer of fantasy or horror novels. My favourite pen name in history is the pen name of Mary Ann Evans. She became one of the most famous writers in Victorian times by using the name George Eliot, fooling her fans into thinking she was a male author. (Mark Twain is another very good one of course)
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. Ha! I was curious after reading your post, and I used the pen name generator. It came up with ‘Blanche Ethelbard’… I think I’ll stick with my own name. Britta Benson works just fine for me… Had a good laugh, though, so thanks for that!

  3. What fun (now let’s see if my real Avatar comes up this time)

My pen name unbeknown to me before publishing 🤦🏻‍♀️ should have been Janessa Yellington. Hmmm.

  4. I ran through it a few times and ended up choosing the first. Having a name like Dale, I am used to names that go both ways ;-) So, I’ll accept Dagmar Eaton-Cledwell… though, it appears the name generator is not so original as all that… there were quite a few Eaton-Cledwells and quite a few Doreens…

  5. My generated pen name is Danford Dunstan. My real name is David E. Miller (the name that appears on my book covers). However, I actually do have a pseudonym registered with Sacem (Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Éditeurs de Musique). It’s LividEmerald, which is an anagram of David E. Miller. I am listed as an “auteur” (I author lyrics) on the Sacem website.

  6. This is like passwords. I’m supposed to remember them all, but I can’t. Instead, I write them all down in our “black book.” I want to make sure I make things convenient for the thieves if they ever break into our home.

  8. I got Sheila Aldredge-Denton
For Selma which is already my pen name😂 I think I’ll stick with Selma—it’s my middle name after all.
But this is fun, Ms. beatrice hazelton; aka rebecca hunter. Thanks for sharing 😀

  9. all of this we did before, didn‘t we?
as kiki is already my pen name (since i was about 18), i entered that one but all i got was BOY pen names and really none appealed to my writer‘s dreams.

then i tried my birth name and i got Helena Ethelbard, Hayley Ethelbert, Hester Eaton-Cledwell (kinda like it, althoughj it‘s bit too high brow)

and my ‚normal‘ (shortened) first name brought me: Hester Illingston and Harmony Ingless (well how about that one?!)

I think I should stick to Kiki – and in any case, none of my writings will (God willing) ever be published.

But it did give me an idea: As for my forgetting passwords, I could use one of those made up pseudonyms…. if only one could remember them! So, I would have the same problems as with the pw‘s i use now ;)
