a few of the apple blossoms
spotting a tree-trimming crew
stood rapt for an hour
checking out the trucks
watching the crew
going up in the bucket
cutting the branches
picking up the leaves
wearing helmets
warning walkers and cars
and then-
they fired up
the chipper.
like being at the circus
hearing the buzz
squealing
as they
watched the chips fly
into yet another truck
excitement level 11.

Watching the same thing over and over again never gets tiring to me! I’d gladly have stood there in the cold with them!

This reminds me of my son, in his younger years, get so enraptured by the garbage truck as they empty the giant bins in our former condo residence. It was mesmerizing to him. Such a joyful innocence in these moments.

oh, absolutely, ab. there is great joy in these moments, when their curiosity knows no boundaries.

Such excitement! This post made me smile. Like the musicians in “This is Spinal Tap,” those workers know how to turn up the volume to 11. :)

Had one of those crews out here a few weeks ago. Awesome and frightening what those commercial chippers can do.
That quote deserves to be framed and hung on the wall!

Oh, that is thrilling. I remember my middle one when he was little. He could spend ages watching people working at construction sites.

What a wonderful age, to find the magic and whimsy in moments that adults would write off as mundane. 🙂

One of our fondest memories is taking our first grandchild to watch the excavation and construction of a new shopping complex. We discovered her fascination while walking to the playground. Many times we never made it to the playground.

Oh. My. Gosh. Those children are me two days ago when the trimmers were in our yard. The wood chipper was my favorite part. I don’t quite know why it’s so satisfying watching the branches go in and the wood chips shoot out the other end. I am such a child! Haha.
