fiddleheads
baby ferns
one of the most beautiful things in nature
their name comes from their resemblance
to the scrolled end of a violin
there’s a certain magical quality about them.

We have tons of ferns in our backyard, and I love them! Supposedly fiddleheads are edible. Maybe I’ll pluck one sometime and eat it.

From some ferns, yes , not all. Be sure to check. I’d love to try them

Fiddleheads are yum. Boil them and serve with a dash of salt. So simple.
My in laws have fiddleheads that grow wild on the side of the road across the street from their home. When they visit us or vice versa, we often get a few ziplock bags of fiddleheads as gifts. That we freeze and enjoy throughout the year.
Nature is amazing!

I’d offer to ship some over next time I get a batch. But you might get charged a tariff! 😂😂😂

Beth, this is wonderful. Ferns have always fascinated me because of that swirl pattern, which I love. Your poem is perfect. Hugs.

Not my shot, this is a fiddlehead from New Zealand, see the credit below, ours have already opened here, but one of my fave natural things

I knew it was a stock photo, but amazing all the same. Having fiddleheads all around me, I never looked or perceived them like that.

We have ferns in the garden and I love watching for them returning after the winter. Those first curled leaves are a sign of spring and happiness.

I never heard that they are edible. Now I regret not having known that before. I had ‘tons’ of them and they grew to impressive heights.

I never knew the story behind the name. But now that you share it, this makes total sense. That fiddlehead photo is the best I’ve ever seen of a fiddlehead. It should grace a greeting card or be a fine art print.
