‘I was walking down the street when my prescription ran out.’ steven wright

Standard

it’s national eyewear day

so I’ll be celebrating

by scheduling my annual eye doctor appointment

life is good

as far as I can see.

until I get my new glasses

and then things might look different.

‘the reason things have or have not happened in my life is because I did not have glasses on.’

  1. there is so much to say or think, at least! as a soon-to-be-blind person I have a lot of compassion for this patient…. it’s a bit harsh, isn’t it? hope to read ‘your story’ one day, beth. thanks a lot for the chuckle.

  2. I have my annual eye appointment soon, too. I’m ready, hoping a new prescription will sharpen my vision. Given I have bilateral strabismus (my eyes don’t work together and I see double without my prism-heavy lenses), this will be a challenging exam for me and my doctor. But I am, oh, so thankful for eyeglasses. Without them, well…

  3. I’ve got an appointment at the end of the month with my glaucoma doc. She doesn’t do the glasses Rx. That’s a different person, different place. Sure would be nice to have it all done at the same time and place.

  4. So funny. Thanks for the explanation on the name of your blog. I’ve always wondered. My big eyeglass/eye doctor revelations: when I was in 6th grade and got my first pair and I was astonished at what the world looked like, and then this past summer when I had cataract surgery on both eyes and I was amazed at what the world looked like.
