‘it is what we know already that often prevents us from learning.’- claude bernard

i’m always fascinated

by how we continue to learn new things every day

it’s a part of what keeps life so interesting in my opinion

while all of us know people

who believe they already ‘know it all’

I learned a long time ago it’s just not true

I also learned that for all of the many things I learn

there are also things that I forget

so hopefully I learn more than I forget

should I just call it even then?

or odd?

we should on most occasions be as ill off as if we remembered nothing”

  1. Oh my…so good! I like the grace that your observations offer, Beth! And the quote from Aaron Benjamin? Wow! Yes! Trying to remember everything…every little thing…impossible and silly. Love the idea of “successful forgetting” from a wellness point of view. xo! 💝

  2. I remember saying “I know everything now” when I was about 5 or 6 because my Dad laughed in a way that indicated I had said something absurd. As I aged, I intellectually understood that I did not know “everything” but I acted like I did. Now I am wiser and realize that I know very little.

  3. “Even or old?” Haha. I know that feeling! There have been times when I’ve “learned something new” only to be like, wait… Didn’t I know that already??

Also, weren’t you going to email me, Beth? Just reminding you. :) [ IlsaReyAuthor @ gmail .com but w/o the spaces, of course.]

  4. Hi Beth
The quote is wrong. Without having learned something, we wouldn’t learn anything. It’s like with a sponge. It can only take in water when it hasn’t taken water in before.
A lot of learning is based on the critique of what we have learned.
