‘What an astonishing thing a book is. It’s a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you’re inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic.”
– Carl Sagan – Cosmos, Part II: The Persistence of Memory, 1980

Hi, Beth, I would like to post the poem I wrote as a comment on your fabulous article about the ,”The Walk For Peace” later tonight, and I would like to use the photos from the post, if that’s ok with you. Of course I’ll be attaching your article’s link, for direct reference about the photos .

My best friend got me a Korean Cookbook for Christmas and I love it. Prior to T, one of my favourite after work and weekend pastimes is to browse through used book stores. So many have shuttered up during the pandemic, sadly. Such a favourite pastime that I miss and more so after reading your post!

Ah, the gift of books…you can’t top that for someone like you (and me) who loves to read.
On a related note, my local used bookshop, Books on Central run by the Rice County Area United Way, showed a 25 percent increase in sales during the past year. All books are donated. All staff are volunteers. And all profits go to the United Way, helping people in my county. I adore this bookstore and its mission. And I buy plenty of books there.
