winter beauty
living this week and next
with single-digit and below zero weather
frost, ice, sleet, and snow
some of you may remember the beauty of this lovely place
I visited last summer on my the first time
in the upper peninsula of michigan

That place truly does look beautiful, whatever the season.
Best wishes, Pete.

Oh my. What loveliness. I pray it’s always like this. Undisturbed and preserved intact. Thanks for sharing.

it is protected land. I visited in the summer and felt comfortable when seeing how well protected it is

I prefer a frosty drink. I fear I’m going to see a lot of frost this weekend. Might even be able to suck on a southern icicle.

Have you two ever ventured to the UP? If not I’d say you should do a summer adventure there – lots of cool places, chefs in the woods, northern lights , unique landscapes and foods , right up your alley

I have not but need to…we’ve been discussing more places to explore in the US – thanks for that!

Actually, that’s very similar-looking to my koi pond right now!

Well, our pond heater is doing its job, keeping a hole in the ice, so I’m assuming they’re okay. Time (spring) will tell!

My poppa always joked that Northern Michigan has only two seasons… August and winter! I do need to see that most enchanting cold spring, my next venture north.

We talked to our son yesterday. It was supposed to be -19 last night in South Dakota. Praying that the homeless are able to find shelter in this massive cold storm.

yes, these are the people who I worry about as well. many cities are open public spaces such as libraries and community centers to unhoused people

How lovely. I love the comparison. What is that building in the middle please? We currently have 6C today – not too bad.

that is a raft that you can get on and pull across the spring. I did it this summer when visiting. it is a protected native american land and park.

Good luck and stay safe with the incoming storm, Beth! Sunny but cold day here today. Running all my errands today and hunkering down at home tomorrow. 30 cm expected over here!

I love your two photos! We are in the teens during the day and single digits at night. That made shoveling hard today! We’re putting the slow drip on the faucet, too. It is beautiful, but brrr…

That is simply otherworldly beautiful. I wonder if that pond freezes over or if the constantly moving water prevents that? Chris

I’m thinking not, for the reason you stated, it’s a freshwater spring
