yes, i know it surprised my children
i was born before Doritos were invented
and ranch dressing became popular
and captain crunch cereal
and space bars and pop tarts
were born
and …
the 60s and 70a
were the heyday for junk food
and i was in my glory.

I do appreciate a Dorito and some nice dip.

I come from a time slot where snacks weren’t even known…. the greatest thing were ‘goldfish’, tiny fish-formed salted snacks. they still exist but i haven’t seen them in a loooooong time. when i was older, Bruchschokolade was a relatively cheap option – nowadays i think you call it chocolate bark (broken pieces of choco) and it has become a ‘lifestyle choice’. Then it was the ‘rubbish’, broken chocolate bunnies, pralinés, etc. and was sold by the 100gr or less….. now it’s an extra expensive plate of ‘hand made’ chocolate with fruits or nuts or whatnot in it! one of my earliest memories though was, when i stole a 20ct bar of icecream from our nearby shop. they had them outside of the store in a large cooler – my mum had to pick me up at the store and had to speak to the manager about her bad daughter….. you see, some hundred yrs later, i still haven’t forgotten the shame and my mum’s horror!

I ate so much junk when I was a kid!

I ate a lot of sweets when I was a kid, but Mum cooked hearty stews and casseroles to offset the junk.

I cannot remember having snacks or treats … but we had peach and apricot trees in the backyard, and there was a yummy loganberry vine down beside the shed …

The only snacks I remember are crisps but those were a treat with a picnic of soggy sandwiches.

We didn’t eat junk food on the farm. The occasional store-bought cookies were a real treat. Mom did all her own baking. My favourite were chocolate marshmallow puffs. https://lolliesnstuff.com.au/product/griffins-mallowpuffs-original-marshmallow-biscuits-200g-packet/

Chips and junk food were NOT a staple in my house. We had to beg for them – or buy them on our own once we made money. They were strictly party food. Must say, I am definitely a chip gal…

The occasional cookie (store bought) was for dessert. Potato chips made an appearance infrequently at lunch, in the summer, at the lake. I do have a memory of pop tarts in the 60’s however…
