“Flagstaff Arizona, don’t forget Winona, Kingman, Barstow, San Bernadino”. I loved Chuck Berry’s song so much I never forgot the lyrics. I might just have to put that on my blog today, Beth. ☺️
Best wishes, Pete.

I remember Flagstaff very well. We stayed there for one night. Before we went on to the next city, we went through the little town and visited the historic train station.

Just wow… and wow. That’s brilliant! And, of course, Route 66 – a bit like Route 62 in SA…

I would never live in Arizona, but if I had to–gun to the head type of situation–I’d pick Flagstaff.

What a wonderful trip. I hope you went inside that shop for a moment or two. Who doesn’t love anything from Rt.66. Now that song is in my head. “Get your kicks, on Route 66.”

Route 66…reminds me of “On the Road” by Jack Kerouac. Still on my bookshelf. Been there for fifty years. Just looked in Google. Now replaced by InterstatemHighways, but csn still be followed for most of the way…. for those who….want their kicks!

Nice catch, the cloud shadow on that lonesome mesa. Not that there were a lot of distractions out there …

good point, not many choices for that cloud to shadow

We were just in Arizona last month, but Flagstaff wasn’t one of our stops. Lots of self-driving cars everywhere.

interesting, did you try one?

Nope, but there was once when I was on a three-lane road and had driverless cars on each side of me. Very weird feeling.

going from newest to older posts on Jetpack, I came across ‘your post’ first on Pete’s blog, and that’s what I wrote on his:
–
…… one of my lasting memories was that trip along the route 66 in our VW camper van (with the small double window at the back), the steady leisurely almost wandering meandering …. we stopped for the fields of American poppies (my first ones ever) – took photos of us with our mascots (sand filled donkeys, just a hand full – custom made by our neighbour in Switzerland)
that was in 1975, and believe it or not, yesterday, Friday, I was telling HH that ‘that route’ was one of my most precious memories ever, here the ocean, and on the other side of the road, the land of countless opportunities (RIP)….
isn’t it interesting how our minds work? it might well be that since i was ‘with you’ in New Mexico, old memories surfaced and i also told HH: I just wonder where all my diaries (with tons of drawings, in colour pencil) went. when i divorced my ex, he told me he’d throw out all our albums, burn them…. he threw them in his cellar (humid) and some years later when he moved, they were destroyed and molded…. but he heart is a wonderful keeper and those memories of a great time are still alive!

that is amazing, and how cool you wrote the diaries even if they are no longer around, you’re right about your heart holding them

What a marvellous trip you had thereWe did the route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica with a deviation through las Vegas and I left my heart in Arizona and Texas. I can’t wait to go back and see more .

That cloud shadow on the hill was amazing. The cloud looks so tiny until you notice how large a shadow it makes. That’s wild. Great shot!
