I love to see kids chalking on roads and pavements. Something I did all the time when I was young that has almost disappeared in the UK now.
Best wishes, Pete.

Funneling all people and vehicles onto a single street hardly seems a way to avoid jamming up traffic.

New York shuts many streets for periods of time so the neighbors can walk freely without cars, and kids are given chalk to creatively draw on the streets. it is a magical time!

We do this every Thursday afternoon through Sunday night from May to October and it’s great

I’d grab a cone of maple walnut, perch on the curb, and watch the world go by.

When I stayed with my daughter in Seattle, kids drew beautiful drawings with colored chalk on the pavement and the roads themselves. I may have a few pictures of them too.

Oh, summer. I so appreciate chalk art, something my kids did often, covering the sidewalk, the driveway.

A lot of streets in our downtown area get closed during the summer to encourage community connections and gatherings. It’s always so nice to see.
