a slight nuance, but the struggle is real.

Standard

does this ever happen to you? i’ve been there. more than once.

“i hate when people accuse me of lollygagging when I’m quite clearly dilly-dallying.”

-pinterest

while both mean to waste time, Dictionary.com highlights a slight nuance.

Lollygagging is the act of idly wandering or goofing off while fully aware you are avoiding a task.

Dilly-dallying usually involves a bit of distraction or indecisiveness where you delay productivity

by moving slowly or finding smaller, unimportant tasks to do.

  1. It has happened so many times. I think it stems from do I really wish to do the task? And then I remind myself of the story of Whitewashing a fence by Mark Twain from Tom Sawyer. Work becomes play when you enjoy it and play becomes work when you dont enjoy it.

  2. I needed just one photo for an article I am writing about the Peruvian jungle, it was of me in a canoe taken twenty-two years ago. It ended up being one of the last of hundreds.of photos in an enormous cardboard box I have. Once they were in order but were now completely mixed up.It took hours and hours tobfind it, but in my search a lifetime passed. I have digtalized a number of photos, but this. multidude of memodies .lay hidden in thIs box, people, places and long forgotten moments of magic, So… if you happen to read my next post on the Peruvian jungle town of Puerto Maldonado, that handsome young man ln the canoe looking like Harrison Ford……..is ME!!

  3. Haha, yes, I know that well… did that often when I was a child of teenager. But meanwhile, I know I’m only doing myself a disservice, and I try even more to get that stuff done… lol

  4. I love those terms and use the often. Yes, that’s why my place is still cluttered. I find such wonderful stuff I had no idea from where it came. I went to sleep last night with my bed piles with books to see if they were allowed to remain. Only one gets moved on. :)
