evening looking across glen lake
no sand dunes to be seen
perfectly quiet and still
—
the further north we headed
toward the lake
the more smoke was in the air
canada
our neighbors to the north
were suffering from big fires
the sunset tried to shine through
it’s sparkles made it to the water
—
‘flame is very near to smoke.’

The smoke is incredibly thick. When I walked outside it was like someone was having a bonfire.

Such a shame about those wildfires. I worry about the poor wild animals, and hope all the people got to safety too.
Best wishes, Pete.

Beth, the quiet lake beside the smoke from Canada’s fires is a powerful contrast, and I hope everyone in danger is safe. 🔥
Much love,

The fires in Eastern Canada are awful and very scary. Towns are being wiped out. I hope everyone stays safe.

Our fires have been making the air quality awful for weeks. They just keep starting… and because most are within the Rockies the containment is nearly impossible.

It’s an eerie sight … when I was traveling through in September, the smoke clouds were very similar, Beth …
“Up Among the Embers”
Climbing higher and higher
Riser after blackened riser
Hovering above the forest fire
In the middle of this smoky mire
Here, beside her charred pyre
Listening to her hallelujah choir

We had the same thing here on the coast of ME yesterday, but the wind changed, and it has cleared up.

There was a faint smell of smoke in the early morning hours here. At least the smell has already gone.

We have no smoke at the moment, but it could happen.
