what a charming scene to happen upon
a tiny bench for a child
to sit and rest
or watch the world go by
or dream
a small bowl of water
for a dog to have a drink
the happy chalk drawings
to bring smiles
for those walking by
the flags
to celebrate our country
to remember what it stands for
plants
to enjoy the beauty of
nurturing and growing
such a kind and generous thing to do.

I love that tiny bench! I always seek out benches to sit on during my walks, and when I was a child I would have been so grateful for a tiny bench to rest on.
Best wishes, Pete.

**A lovely and heartwarming moment. Even the smallest bench can hold the biggest imagination and remind us of the simple beauty found in everyday life. Thank you for sharing.**

What a wonderful poem. Without the image it still allows for us to envision the beauty and peacefulness of the scene.

I’m particularly delighted by the chalk drawings and can easily imagine several children laughing and giggling as they decide what to draw and what colors to use

Kind and generous…yes! Such sweetness, Beth. And this might be true where you’re at, too. It’s become insufferably hot and humid here. Small bowls of water for any creature who might need a drink? I love it.
xo! 💝

During the pandemic, when T was in kindergarten and we were all so isolated at home, pavement chalk art was one of the things that we did to kill time and spread some cheer. This post brought back that warm memory for me. 😊

I enjoyed the feel-good energy about this poem, Beth. Lately, Ive been.seeing hopscotch squares on the sidewalk..randomly. no houses or kids nearby either. My old knees still attempt if only for a laugh.

Thanks, that’s amazing! I see the hopscotch squares as a gift to others. Perhaps to bring happy nostalgic memories and feelings to grown ups and to give them a chance to try it like you did –

Oh yes..plus my Geeta nieces and nephews “have never played hopscotch” 😲… what is the world coming to? Lol
So they’re now fans.

There are bad things there, too. Cracks…to break your mother’s back…

Chalk art always stops me. But then the bench, the flowers, the flags…all make this scene even more inviting.
