  1. It is such a moving show. I saw it when it was on PBS, and then we saw it live in Philadelphia. It’s hard not to have all the feelings seeing it. As you say, “there is goodness in the world,” and it’s something we should remember.

  2. You dont turn your backs on people in need….

That about sums it up. This was such a moving post, Beth. Every story was good for the soul. It’s unfortunate that most need major tragedies to show humanity. But in this town, it seems like it’s a daily vibe.

  3. Thanks for adding all the extra personal details of some of those involved. I remember the incident very well, but only as an ‘overview’. It is one of those events that can restore faith in decent human nature and reaffirm that most people are good.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  4. I remember when this happened, and how humbling it was to hear of the love that was showered upon these strangers, by strangers. Thank you for sharing the links to the documentary and filmed stage production. I can see what I get to do this weekend… smile from my heart!

  5. So timely and valuable to describe this amazing event and the theatrical expressions of it in detail, beth. We need such reminders, especially as we move through our current—temporary—reality.

We saw the Broadway production all these years ago, and it has never left me. Thank you for covering it so thoroughly.

  6. I love this show. And the story always brings tears to my eyes. There’s not enough thanks in the world for what those people did. Thank you for the details of what happened later. I’d not heard most of that.

  7. That must have been a powerful play. I still think about 9/11 as one of the hardest days of my teaching career because my students showed up at school with those images still fresh in their minds. All I could think was to tell them they were safe in our classroom, though I secretly wondered if that was true.

  8. I remember reading about this event. The town was so kind and nice towards the travellers. A beautiful testimony to existence of goodness and humans and it shows what good neighbors Canadians are to Americans. Some Americans seem to have forgotten this but not most.
