the special black dirt

it is like magic.

tomorrow we cook.

the farmer has to be an optimist

or he wouldn’t still be a farmer.

it was science day

we made

solutions and color swirls

learned about buoyancy

floated and sunk things

then

we met

two big horses

a baby cow from scotland

a ball python

IMG_0983

and

came back to our room

where we met

 a friendly silverback gorilla

IMG_0988

and an anthropologist

who told us all about him

and he shared

his celery snack

and one of

the best discoveries of all

was when we found out

all on our own

that we could

make secret forts

under the big kid’s science table

it was so great

to have a special day for science

but then every day

is really science day

if we just look around.

kinders size up the leaves

that are

like nothing they’ve seen before

much bigger than their heads

with a color

like shiny crayons

they must be

leftover

from the time of the dinosaurs.

the world is a giant puzzle that hasn’t been put together yet,

and were trying to

find the other piece of this puzzle that goes with us.

we made a fancy house

with

windows open wide

thinned the field

planted beautiful flowers

collected favorite things

painted magic rocks

decorated sticks

sprinkled

treasures and sparkles

opened up a pumpkin patch

made the beds

welcomed

the curious bees

and

friendly butterflies

laid out a table

and invited them in.

the fairies

must have been watching

for they

moved into

their new little village

in the circle

right on our playground

and

we hope they’re here to stay.

if a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder without any such gift from the fairies, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.

our class went to see

 nick cave’s art exhibit

up close and personal

sound suits

colors

swirls

dancing

textures

fun

then made

their own accessories

in his style

and

learned so much

about art having no boundaries

how things can look and sound and feel

art can be found in all kinds of places

and

most of all

that each of them are artists in their own right.

we went outside

on a class hike

 touched stuff

 picked up things

 fell down

 rolled

ran

 played in the water

saw some pretty little stuff

and saw some big and beautiful stuff

IMG_0943

and tried to figure out

how to get way up there

IMG_0947

 then we found this

and

think it was a message

left for us

and decided it was true

 and our adventure

was even better.
