a gift of mischief and mayhem and love all rolled into one

found this old book of love that my daughters had given me for my birthday more than a decade ago. i laughed out loud all over again, at their kind and loving and humorous approach to life. no one had much money, but this book was worth everything. they spoiled me with offers of flowers and treats and reluctant shared experiences and pampering (even though they signed up their third sister who was out of the country for this task).  here are some of the coupons found within:

  1. aww this is so wonderful. whenever i go through my old boxes of memories, i think about how these are the things i treasure most.. not the material items but rather the hand-written card or the photograph from long ago.

  2. Most. Awesome. Coupons. Ever. Your daughters obviously received your gifts of humor and cleverness to come up with this precious treasure, Beth. Pamper and massage from Holli in Australia! Perfect. With the library, other’s-garden bouquet and film of your choice, it’s obviously heartfelt, too.

  3. I have these too. I use them when I first get them and then forget. Wonder if they ever expire. Must search them out. I love the ones that promise unending cups of tea made. Think I might have used all those ones up without even redeeming the coupons. These are the best kinds of gifts. 🙂 x

  4. Oh, the joy of receiving the “Coupon Book” from the girls on a birthday or other special occasion. They were so proud of their efforts and I loved getting them. My problem was trying to redeem them! Mine were usually “One bathroom cleaning” or “Dishes done without asking”. When presented with the coupon, I immediately received the eye-roll and “I have sooo much homework!”. Hahaha!! Those were the days!

  5. I remember making one of these for my dad…I can’t remember how old I was but we’ve still got it in a box in the basement. My dad never used it. Kind of like how my mother never wore the shirt I gave her back in first grade.
I think they prefer cards and money. xD

  6. Awww…that’s so lovely. They grow up so fast! My girl does not give me notes and little paintings/drawings any more. She stopped at 9 years of age. Now, she is 14! Time just flew by so fast. But I still keep all her scribbles and doodles. I love looking at them from time to time. It’s hard to imagine she was that same very girl who made them sometimes. She is such an opinionated teenager now! LOL

  7. Delightful, Beth! Our 2 kids are in their late 20s, but I still cherish similar coupon books they made for me. Can’t believe that I never cashed in on all the “free back rubs” and “uninterrupted naps” (I wonder if it’s too late).
