one doesn’t have a sense of humor. it has you. – larry gelbart

when i went

to pick out the carpeting

for my bedroom

up in the cozy loft

of the cottage

the woman

helping me

all of

the relevant questions

‘is it a high traffic area?’

i looked her in the eye

just couldn’t help myself

when i answered

‘well, i am single and it is my bedroom, so wouldn’t that be funny if i said yes?’

she stopped for a minute

looked back at me

with a confused expression

and checked something off on her paper

i’d love to see her notes

it is requisite for the relaxation of the mind that we make use,

from time to time, of playful deeds and jokes.

  1. Can’t believe she didn’t laugh. If only you’d had entire day to shop for carpeting, you could have gone to every flooring store in town, maybe dress up real provocatively, whatever that may involve, and announce right away, “I’m looking for some carpet for my bedroom, and it’s a really HIGH-traffic area, if you know what I mean.” Then whoever laughs the most or has the best comeback gets your business.

  2. Ha! That sounds like something I would have said! I’m always saying silly things like that. The ‘sack boy’ at the grocery once asked me if I’d like paper or plastic. I looked him square in the eye and said “yes”. I think he is still scratching his head… On dr forms when they ask the question is Sex and the M or F, I have on occasion put…not for a long, long time! Ha gotta have fun in life, right!?
