a few minutes ago every tree was excited, bowing to the roaring storm, waving, swirling, tossing their branches in glorious enthusiasm like worship. but though to the outer ear these trees are now silent, their songs never cease.

Lovely! I can honestly say that I have never thought of trees being excited in a storm. It shakes things up quite a bit :)

John Muir certainly had an inspired relationship with nature. Muir Woods was such a beautiful place to visit – like a sanctuary of giant trees – and there was an interesting scent there that I’ve never experienced anywhere before or since. Thanks for the lovely post, Other Beth:0))

Oh, the magic in the trees and nature, all so lovely in this post. I imagine the trees whistling and creaking their old branches, Beth! May all of our songs never cease!

I love this post, maybe because of my deep appreciation for John Muir, and for trees, and for the painting you use. John Muir, his words, quotes, essays are seemingly transcendent. 101 years after he died, people are still quoting John Muir, and reading his work. “Trees … silent … songs, never cease.”

thank you, i am also a huge fan of john and the tress, and his words are truly ageless and wise.
