a tree by any other name……

melbourne assigned some of its trees

numbers and email addresses

so that residents could report problems

like low hanging branches.

instead, thousands of people wrote them love letters.

what would you write to them?

“if you reveal your secrets to the wind, you should not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees.”

  1. What a lovely response from the residents! There is one tree in particular to which I’d write a poem about how grateful I am for it’s tolerance while I climbed it as a child. It was a very large tree then and was still standing proudly in front of my old house the last time I drove by several years ago. I wonder if there are children living there now climbing her branches and enjoying her precious shade.

  2. What a cool idea. Trees are wonderful. I’d like to say thank you to the big maple in our front yard where Marie and I raised the kids in Orleans. It was very patient and at one time or another its magnificent branches held, me, Marie, the kids, coconuts, lawn watering sprayer, many cats, fake squirrels, etc.
