we are so tiny
the size our worries should be
nothing in the scheme
“i believe everyone should have a broad picture of how the universe operates and our place in it.
it is a basic human desire.
and it also puts our worries in perspective.”

A beautiful perspective, but one that is hard to hold onto. Too easily we are pulled back into our little bubbles of self.

very easy to slide back, and good to try to remember when it’s happening, to help regain some balance

As a writer/musician, I’ve tried to describe what reverence feels like all of my life. So far, the best I’ve done is that feeling of being microscopic and vast at the very same time.

I can see myself waving in that photo! Seriously, you see our role in this universe and you wonder why even bother to put on socks!

This insight is one of the reasons why I love watching the night sky. It distances me from the meaningless problems in my life and shows me the majestic universe, I am blessed to be a part of.

if he truly believed this, he would have written a book that regular folk could have understood 🙂

an excellent point but I just took it to meant a general understanding of how small we are to fit into this universe, and maybe that is enough. to totally understand its workings, is a whole other level. )

yes, we are smaller than a speck…
I think I heard one of the late night comedians say that “A Brief History of Time” was the bestselling book of all time that no one read…
I did buy it, tried to read a few pages, and gave up 🙂

lovely, inspiring thoughts 🙂 Stephen Hawking was quite the philosopher

Stephen Hawking was ahead of his time. So few are interested in physics or cosmology and don’t understand how it all affects us. Maybe soon everyone will get that we are a tiny dot in the overall but have a strong affect just by our thoughts and actions. Everything affects everything else. I do wish he hadn’t made us aware of black holes though. It tends to worry me a bit. 😉

This reminds me of how, in law school, I’d go sit on my apartment’s front porch when feeling overwhelmed by everything in my own life. Since that porch looked onto a very, very busy freeway, I got quick, solid perspective; it wasn’t to say that my own experiences didn’t matter, but that they were a very, very small piece of a much bigger picture. So I smile to read this, both remembering and being reminded: perspective.

isn’t it interesting how that happens? it’s so easy to forget and when we have those moments, it kind of resets everything
