rereading one of my favorite books
well-worn/well-loved
dr. zhivago
sweeping epic set in russian history
extraordinary characters
extraordinary times
pasternak a poet
i would love for it to have
a different ending
for just one reading
yet know
it would not be
the story it was meant to be.
—
“literature is the art of discovering something extraordinary about ordinary people,
and saying with ordinary words something extraordinary.”
-boris pasternak
Yes. It is.

I haven’t read it yet, but it was recently mentioned on a reading list I was looking at. So many books, so little time!

I hope that if and when you get to it that you enjoy it –

I confess I’ve never read the book, but the movie — viewed in the middle of a hot Okla. summer, was magnificent. Not the same, I know, but it was still unforgettable.

I loved the movie too!

I’m not used to you posting so late in the day. Great book! A well-worn book is a sign of a book that deserves to be read.

There is a logical explanation for that, Pete! I accidentally hit publish when I was working in scheduling it for the am! So here it is once more )

One of my faves too. I love period pieces so rich in history. Enjoy, again!

One of my favorites, too–though I haven’t reread it in years.
I also love the movie.
A few years ago, I read a novel based on the real “Lara.” She was sent to prison camps twice.

I just looked it up, and it’s called Lara. I got it from the library.

In my life, I’ve only re-read 2 books – Atlas Shrugged and Lord of the Flies.
Is this one better than the movie? Books usually are.

I feel it is, though I did enjoy the film as well.

Atlas Shrugged was fantastic. LOTF was good, too , but I read it in high school a hundred years ago.

So did I, that’s why I read it again – the get an adult perspective. Rand’s book was incredible, such an insight!!

My ex wife used to question why I saved a good book. She could never understand why someone would want to read it again. To that I would question why she would watch the same movie or tv show over and over.
I don’t have the time to reread often, but I wish I did. So many great books on my shelves ready to be reread.
