stopping by this amazing wonderland of a store
was like stepping right into willie wonka’s factory
all joy and color
sweets of every kind and shape and size
old favorites, new delightful unusual treats
happiest place in town
nothing was impossible.
—
“Mr. Willy Wonka can make marshmallows that taste of violets, and rich caramels that change color every ten seconds as you suck them, and little feathery sweets that melt away deliciously the moment you put them between your lips. He can make chewing-gum that never loses its taste, and sugar balloons that you can blow up to enormous sizes before you pop them with a pin and gobble them up. And, by a most secret method, he can make lovely blue birds’ eggs with black spots on them, and when you put one of these in your mouth, it gradually gets smaller and smaller until suddenly there is nothing left except a tiny little dark red sugary baby bird sitting on the tip of your tongue.”
-Roald Dahl, ‘Charlie And The Chocolate Factory’.
I love places like this. They are like candy museums except you get to eat the art!

I looked and looked. But I didn’t see one kid in that shop.
I did notice a man who had a paper in his hand. It looked like a list of candy he needs/wants to buy. He’s checking it twice.

Trust me lots of kids visit frequently and on this day lots of parents buying surprise holiday presents. My shot is of just one part of the store)

You got me wondering when the first toy store opened. According to the article at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toy_store
“The first toy store was founded in 1760 by William Hamley in London, under the name of ‘Noah’s Ark’, later renamed to Hamleys.”

I realize you’re showing a candy store, but at this time of year it reminded me of a toy store.

Ah…..there is a candy store, all candy fun, in a city not far from here. We take the grands. I’m not sure who is more gleeful when we are there. Grands or us. But there is a lot of glee!

It gives me the image of a brain full of closed doors. And once you walk in there, the doors start opening.

There’s a store like this somewhere in the area. My daughter-in-law surprised me one day with some Pop Rocks. I hadn’t seen any in decades! What fun to have some again!

My kind of place. I’m a big fan of Roald Dahl. The BFG was one of my favorite read-alouds for my older elementary students.
