looks like blue cross finally settled their class action lawsuit
for $14 billion, 991 million dollars, and some change
when reading through my letter of settlement
i see they used class action lawsuit math to arrive at my payment
my $3 thousand and some dollars spent on what they considered ‘relevant purchases’
(plus all of my dollars spent with them that were considered ‘irrelevant’ )
are worth an award of exactly 5 cents.
which they noted, ‘of course is less than $10 dollars’
will be donated to free clinics of michigan (a good cause)
so perhaps the donation on my behalf
will help to purchase exactly 1/2 of 1 bandaid for someone.

Half a band-aid is very important to the person who is still bleeding and needs that half of a band-aid to help stop the flow of blood.

Well, like we say here in Europe, the US is over-litigated for sure…

indeed it is, but I’m not against going up against a big monster company, just found the outcome quite humorous with their explanation –

so crazy, but I did find it really more funny than anything as it has happened so long ago and I wasn’t expecting anything,

Click on the little keyboard icon in the lower left corner of the screen. When the keyboard window comes up, there’s a little icon of a box with a heart in the upper right corner. Click on that and it’ll give you all kinds of officially recognized emojis to insert. If it doesn’t work, place your cursor on where you want the emoji to go again, and then click on the emoji you want. ;)

So over 3G’s spent on medical bills warrants a measly 5 cents share…probably best to never take part in class action lawsuits in the future 🤔

I really wasn’t expecting anything from them, they reached out to me to see if I wanted to be included and here we go! ))

Wow! I wonder what are relevant and irrelevant purchases when using medical insurance. It’s not like it’s a credit card or that you have much choice when visiting a medical facility.

They do have a way of making their math work for them. Sigh.

no worries, I really wasn’t expecting to get anything, I’m sure there were a bajillion people involved in this, but I was just so amused by their math, and how they took the time to tell me about my 5 cents and why and where it would go

American healthcare, they claim it is the besy in the world…
I was also once involved in something similar, involving false claims by manufacturers over the fuel efficiency of diesel cars. It had millions of claimants, all across Europe. My eventual settlement was so low, the lawyers contacted me by email to say that it was less than the cost of sending me a settlement cheque by post. Like, you, I wasn’t expecting much, but it does make me wonder why they bother. My guess is that the lawyers get paid before dividing up what’s left.
Best wishes, Pete.

perhaps they signed up for the blue cross advantage plan?

Class action lawsuits really are a scam. The plaintiffs are the only ones NOT to benefit from them. The corporations get off paying a fraction of what they would have IF people could find lawyers willing to actually WORK on a case like these for a single plaintiff, then the lawyers take the lion’s share of the payout.
Pretty sad when you consider that if Blue Shield got hit for almost 15 billion and didn’t even announce an appeal, you KNOW what they did was serious and systemic.
