is it really, though?
what would stop anyone from just walking around the sign,
unsure of where the private part begins and ends?
or to test the boundaries?

Really? Just a door but no fence or wall? Funny or ‚work in progress‘?

Where did that fence go? Maybe they gave up before they built it.

We had a gate similar to that in our back yard on the farm. No fence, just the gate. Not sure why but it blocked the sidewalk until I managed to break the lock and open it. Beautiful setting for this one though.

It is in a pretty setting for sure, and as a stand alone, made me smile

Haha! They must have a sense of humor, or someone stole the fence/ wall around the gate.

There are many similar (apparently pointless) signs arond here. I have been told they are required for public liability insurance. If someone ignores the sign and is injured on your property, you are not liable because you posted a warning/private sign.
Best wishes, Pete.

Fascinating! Makes for a good blog post photo, which is more useful than its role as a gate. 😁

Very thought provoking. She was a woman ahead of her time. I remember reading Silas Marner what seems like a million years ago.

You had me with the quote from Eliot/Mary Ann Evans. Such a story there. I’d say test those boundaries — she surely did. 🥰

Crazy what some women did to get ahead, and I thank them for opening doors.
Many still need to be opened.

Hilarious! I have a photo of the same thing leading to a winery…you know, if everything to the left and right of the “gate” is larger than the gate itself, privacy could be a request not a guarantee!

There is a big field that we drive by sometimes with a toilet in the middle of it. Just once I’d like to see someone sitting on it and reading while I drive by.

There is a fence in our neighborhood that has a similar effect. It’s just one piece of a fence, but you can easily walk around it into a field lol
