so off i go today
to the convent
where i’ll stay and meet up with
my sister and my aunt who is a sister
relax, talk, walk, meditate, share meals, laugh, cry, remember, tell stories
see her sacred and important places
shared spaces
if i was a nun
i imagine myself
singing and running through the hills
like sister maria in the alps
but i think this spring break
slow and easy
may be exactly perfect
a time of rest and renewal.

Off to the nunnery for me … I need a relaxing break … I’m flat chat preparing for the “Clunes Booktown Festival” this weekend … I’ve just finished folding and enveloping 100 poems, for my “Lucky Dip Bucket” … Phew!

I can’t remember my Hamlet that well, but wasn’t a nunnery in that era more salacious? Now you’re going to make me think about Hamlet…😉

Yes, it really did have a double meaning in those times

As long as you brought it up: do you remember The Singing Nun from the early ’60’s? Just about every Catholic family had her album, as well as a few Protestants…. her big hit as “Dominique”…

Yes, and we sand along with that song!🎶

That’s right, it came with a lyric sheet, with the words in French and English. If you knew how to pronounce French, it was great…

My aunt/godmother was a member of the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart. After she could no longer visit us, family members created opportunities to visit her in Maryland. We have very fond memories of those pilgrimages.

A spring break at a nunnery with your sister, and aunt who is a sister, sounds perfect. I would be Sister Maria, running through the hills and singing. Enjoy relaxing, walking, meditating, laughing, and all that comes with being together. Best to you, Beth.

Two of my aunts were nuns. I used to ride bikes with one of them. Nothing would bother her as she rode in her habit totally unfazed by the looks of people.

This is interesting. It reminds me of a woman who wrote for my community blog about “running away” to a monastery for a few days. I didn’t even know that was a thing.

I know that I am behind schedule in responding to this post. I have been weaning myself off spending hours on a keyboard every day, and while I can read your post via my email on my phone, I prefer my laptop. All that said, I wanted to respond to this post because it really relayed a sense of contentment to me (and some longing as well) to being in a place where you are removed from the “outside world” and can commune and meditate on yourself, your God, and your loved ones.
