on our visit to holland, mi
so many shoes to choose from
at dutch village
some more challenging than others

Did you buy them? I like the roller ones…. But when my kid was small, i took him on an outing, him in the buggy, dog on the leash, me on roller skates, on a steep road down i got a fir cone in the wheels, dog nearly got strangled because leash rolled itself around the spinning wheel of the buggy which, i managed to steer into a fence as not to jolt my baby out of its carriage – all of which ultimatively terminated my roller skates career abruptly….

two of us did, but not me, i’m all about comfort. glad everyone was okay during your roller walk

I never bought any either. Because comfortable they aren‘t. And frankly, silly to see them in any other place than the Netherlands. But that never hindered anybody wearing them either…. :) As for the roller skates; I really loved them but after that experience my fear was greater than the joy. And I nearly killed my child AND my dog.

The wood roller skates look adorable, did you find out if anyone has ever tried them? 🙃

Yes! Absolutely we must be grateful to our feet! And we use similar wooden shoes like those over our own regular shoes in Asturias when it rains, at least we used to when I was a wee lad, I do not know if they still do as I live in another location… All the best and a great week to you Beth!

Oh, thanks to you I learned that there is a place called Asturias and that it is in Spain. You wore wooden shoes over your regular ones? Instead of rubber boots? But then it never rains in Spain, or hardly ever…. This is a bit of conundrum for me.

In the north of Spain it rains almost every day that is why it is so green. Yes, we wore those big wooden shoes over the regular ones, especially in those days when it drizzled all day long… I’ve been away from there for a long time and I do not really know if they are still in use, but they were when I was a lad. Thank you and all the best. Asturias, Galicia, Cantabria and Euskadi constitute the north Cantabric Sea coast where it always rains.

Asked Hero Husband if he knew that place, and he perked up saying that for the longest time he’d like to visit….. see, I have been married for over 26 years, and still I know nothing about HH!

I love wooden clogs! When I went to Amsterdam in the late 1980s I bought a pair of plain wooden clogs like those to wear out in the garden I had at the time. The shop had huge painted wooden clogs outside, like the ones in your photo. But I definitely would not be trying to skate on ‘roller-clogs’!
Best wishes, Pete.

Wooden clogs with roller skates attached! That is so funny. But do they work as roller skates? Very interesting place to see! Thanks for sharing!

Fascinating. But I’ll pass on the roller clogs. (Would love to see someone wearing them, however.)

Those roller clogs would take some gettin’ used to…I’d probably roll right out of ’em!

I used to have clogs as a kid and I used to live in Germany at the border to the Netherlands. It was great after the borders came down in Europe to go shopping and visiting great places there. Lovely pictures. Hope you had great fun 🤗

Gave me a smile. One of my best friends in high school was Dutch and we were fascinated by the families wooden shoes.

These look so difficult to walk in no matter the size. But fun to try on.

Yes I tried walking in the ones that were my size even those were a challenge. While we were at Dutch Village, everyone wore them that worked there and people even dance in them. I can’t imagine how challenging that was.

I remember Dutch Village so well. We went every spring since we lived close by in Muskegon. They hadn’t invented the roller skates yet though!! I think I may have tried on those same huge yellow wooden shoes! And oh, the wonderful tulips!!!!

I was there once, years ago. Interesting. I think you need a smaller size. I think you have to get used to wearing them, that’s for sure.

yes, and I was shocked that they were dancing in them.
