“What I love about Juneteenth is that even in that extended wait, we still find something to celebrate. Even though the story has never been tidy, and Black folks have had to march and fight for every inch of our freedom, our story is nonetheless one of progress.”
– Michelle Obama | Lawyer, Writer, & Former First Lady of the United States

Enjoy this day of celebration over there. I hope Trump and his cronies don’t decide to get rid of it.
Best wishes, Pete.

I bow my head to help take in the significance of Juneteenth, Beth! I learned a lot about the holiday while I worked at our local library, researching to help properly commemorate with our patron community.

Thanks for sharing this message and art. I’m back from Madison (visiting the daughter, son-in-law and grandson) and just posted about participating in the NO KINGS protest here in Minnesota.

In comparison to Michelle’s insightful comment:
Quote from: CNN
President Donald Trump took to social media Thursday on Juneteenth, a federal holiday, to criticize the number of “non-working holidays” in the United States.
“Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed. The workers don’t want it either! Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform.”
My Response:
Oh good grief!! He can waste millions on a birthday parade for himself but bemoans the celebration of an event as monumental as the ending of slavery??? This man is a heartless, mindless moron.
