i’m always fascinated
by how we continue to learn new things every day
it’s a part of what keeps life so interesting in my opinion
while all of us know people
who believe they already ‘know it all’
I learned a long time ago it’s just not true
I also learned that for all of the many things I learn
there are also things that I forget
so hopefully I learn more than I forget
should I just call it even then?
or odd?

I love learning new things. I guess that’s why we should be getting wiser the older we become.

That’s an interesting concept indeed. That we forget things to re-learn them so as not to ‘overload’ our brain. Definitely one worth considering.
Best wishes, Pete.

Oh my…so good! I like the grace that your observations offer, Beth! And the quote from Aaron Benjamin? Wow! Yes! Trying to remember everything…every little thing…impossible and silly. Love the idea of “successful forgetting” from a wellness point of view. xo! 💝

Learning new things is what keeps us alive and relevant, I say. So we forget a thing or two making room for the new… not too bad in the grand scheme of things!

You’re right. Each day brings an opportunity to learn. And we should always continue to learn because we do NOT know it all.

I remember saying “I know everything now” when I was about 5 or 6 because my Dad laughed in a way that indicated I had said something absurd. As I aged, I intellectually understood that I did not know “everything” but I acted like I did. Now I am wiser and realize that I know very little.

I did the same thing at age 6, when I put on a pin from my birthday card that said ‘now you are 6’ and I went to my mom and told her I knew everything and there was nothing else that I needed to learn and she disagreed with me.

I hope the balance of learning surpasses the things I forget…some days maybe, some days not so much. I’m going for an overall gain. 😊

The thing I wish I could remember is phone numbers. I knew everyone’s number before these cell phones. I told my husband two days ago that I need to write them down for the day my phone dies.

“Even or old?” Haha. I know that feeling! There have been times when I’ve “learned something new” only to be like, wait… Didn’t I know that already??

Hi Beth
The quote is wrong. Without having learned something, we wouldn’t learn anything. It’s like with a sponge. It can only take in water when it hasn’t taken water in before.
A lot of learning is based on the critique of what we have learned.
