happy quad of moms
babies in tow
meet at the mall
to workout
dance, laugh, chant, count, sing
most of all
to enjoy time spent
in each other’s company
away from the world
outside those automatic doors

Meeting up and exercising with the babies in their buggies is a great idea. Bonding, sharing, and staying fit.
Best wishes, Pete.

We have a group of Mums and Babies who meet twice a week in our local Park. There is a group leader who takes them on a ‘run’ with pauses for on the spot exercises. They are a tough lot, out in just about any weather. I call them the “Ladies that Push”… as the pushchairs are very much part of the routine. You also hear them coming, their laughter infectious. :-)

they were so joyful and happy and one of the babies was bigger and cheering them on

I did a post about them a dozen years ago. I went to the mall for safe walking and saw them there daily or weekly. Fascinating. No such thing when my children were small.

A safe warm place to meet. I used to walk daily in a large mall. So many ins and outs to travel. It didn’t take long to join with others and have donuts later.

I walk there when it’s freezing outside and so much going on inside

Ooops vanished before I finished..many of them end up if the park café…not sure some of the food intake adds to the keep fit routine, but no doubt adds to the social benefits.

My son and I predated mall walking. We just gathered with other moms on the block at somebody’s home and sat around drinking coffee and gossiping. Nobody ever suggested grabbing the strollers and walking around the block!

What a riot! Back when I would have been walking a baby through the mall, there would NEVER have been this much room. Sad, but glad to think there is room for these moms and wee ones to hang out!

I love seeing this, Beth. I just became a grandmother less than a week ago and I’m sure he will get the chance to see his mom having fun with her friends, too. It’s like I’m getting a glimpse into his future. ❤️

Woo hoo, Melanie! Do your son, his wife, and your grandchild live close to you? We’re counting the days until we travel to see our grandson at the end of March.

Thanks so much, Pete! Now I know how you feel when you first posted news about Jack. 😊 We are also like you as we live far away. They are in Boston. But we will visit often!

That is a fun poem. Malls have been closing but for reasons you bring up in the poem I think some of them will remain. We have a mall close by here in Dallas (Northpark Mall) that invested in putting up a lot of art, so people come to walk, jog and and look at the art and do some shopping too, and that’s how they thrive.

yes, this mall too, is being remade into a multi use space, apartments, coffee shop, fresh food grocery store, helping the remaining stores to freshen up, having more community classes here, etc. I’m so glad they are using it instead of tearing it down

Yes you are right. It is a lot space and it has to be used creatively.

How fun! This sparked a memory of three kids from one of my second-grade classes. One mom gave birth to twin girls. The other mom gave birth to a boy. The moms met in the hospital and became friends. The boy used to tell me he was going to marry one of the twin girls when they got older. 😊

Why was it that the first thing I thought of was Hungry Hungry Hippos? 🤣 I love that there are groups like this finding fun and connection during this time in their lives.
