    Gotta make empathy the norm again, like back in the day when everyone looked aghast at sociopaths. Here’s hoping May Day participants move the needle a little. Lord knows the North Carolina legislature should be taking better care of our teachers and students.

  2. God, I used to hate May Day. Growing up in Hawaii, it was Lei Day, and throughout elementary school, I was always forced to do some lame aloha-themed recital. I have no beef with it nowadays, of course—especially when it advocates protest!

  3. I confess my thoughts are always divided on May 1 because today is my sister’s birthday. But yes, empathy worldwide would be a giant step forward. And for those who can’t summon empathy, respect. (It’s in my avatar for a reason.)
