  1. Yes, VOTE. I attended a candidate forum last evening because I was unfamiliar with some of the local school board candidates. And the other night I attended a town hall in my community hosted by Minnesota Public Radio on data centers. Now that was interesting since a data center has been proposed for my city. The only support at the meeting came from elected officials who are seeing dollar signs. The rest of us are concerned about the environment, water, electricity, noise…

    • good for you, i think the local elections are incredibly important. the data centers are a huge issue here as well. it’s a quick money grab by the corporate/tech people, but very bad for communities no matter what they promise. why there isn’t one ny mar a lago, or any wealthy communities. they often prey on the smaller towns, rural areas and townshops.

read about what’s happened to the residents in memphis and other areas. Residents living near massive AI data centers in the U.S. South report worsening health issues, particularly respiratory problems, tied to heavy air pollution from unpermitted on-site fossil-fuel and methane gas turbines used to power the facilities.
      Health Impacts and Concerns
      • Air Pollution: Facilities like Elon Musk’s xAI”Colossus” supercomputer in Memphis, Tennessee, have relied on dozens of mobile methane-powered gas turbines running without proper initial permits or emission controls.
      • Respiratory Illness: Residents in South Memphis and parts of Mississippi near data center installations report that toxic emissions—including nitrogen oxides, formaldehyde, and fine particulate matter—worsen asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and trigger severe breathing difficulties.
      • Noise and Stress: Constant, jet-engine-like noise from cooling systems and turbines creates chronic sleep deprivation, hypertension, and stress for neighboring communities.
      • Expert Warnings: Environmental groups and former EPA officials warn that the surging power demands of southern data centers relying on fossil-fuel backups risk driving up regional asthma cases and premature deaths.
