recently

i’ve found myself

in an

ongoing battle of the wits

with the squirrels

who come to play in my yard

and who

have recently

 kicked

their games of

mischief

and

merry-making

up a notch

eating buds from

the bright green gardenia plant

just as it’s about to bloom

tearing down and making off

with the tiny flags

and

leaving nothing but

 a trail of snacks behind

squ

i picture them holding secret meetings

inside the knothole

of the big tree out front

assigning jobs

creating new strategies

giggling

chattering

in their native squirrel language

discussing

how to

step up their game

and

i am

losing the battle

but

next

i’m

going to

try to make friends with them

or

go undercover.

beat the squirrels to the pine nuts.’

the artist’s world is limitless.

it can be found anywhere,

far from where he lives or a few feet away.

it is always on his doorstep.

IMG_0764late morning

on the tiny deck

behind my tiny cottage

surrounded by a tiny garden

sharing this tiny space

with a

delicate spider

perched upon

champagne dreams roses

petals flying

orange cat

stretched out

on

 weathered deck

under a cloudy sky

 sipping

 warm coffee

with

coconut cream

 reading

 listening

 taking it all in

happy to share this space

all of us knowing

life is good.

deer crossing.

Standard

IMG_0713it began with the random choice of my reindeer shirt

the obvious selection for a springy-summery day

IMG_0708 i wore it on a visit to my daughter

as we sat in her yard

i saw something

out of the corner of my eye

 i looked over

to see this guy standing there

looking at me

he must have seen me

out of the corner of his eye

IMG_0711

 i headed over to

the hidden and understated

hard to find

artisan oasis

known as

motawi tiles

IMG_0712

where i came across this beautiful

handcrafted tile

and i knew

this was the one i was meant to own

all signs pointed me clearly in this direction.
