candle hack of the day:

light candles with uncooked spaghetti

new to me: if  you don’t have a match or a lighter, and you want to light a candle, or you’ve got a candle sitting at the bottom of a tall, thin jar, you may be wondering how to reach the wick to light it. grab some dry spaghetti from the pantry instead, which works beautifully as an extra-long matchstick. with caution, light the piece of spaghetti on the stove, then take the flaming piece of pasta and carefully use it to light whatever candles you so choose. voila!

note:  when i first learned about this hack, i started looking for examples, and it led to me down a rabbit hole, to a whole candle/pasta industry…

candles that look like pasta, pasta candleholders, candles in your pasta,  party candles shaped like pasta….hoo boy, it’s endless..

quotes from Reddit users:

“Either light some spaghetti. Or, get your shoes on, get in the car, go to the store, spend money on a thing, then come back and then light the candle. Brother that ain’t easier.”

“Tiny matches and flames scare me, so this keeps my fingers back and is so easy.”

“Once I didn’t have any matches to light my menorah, so I lit a slice of spaghetti on fire with my stove and it worked beautifully.”

‘Safety Skeptics’ responses/quotes:

“Lighting a candle with a spaghetti noodle is not recommended because spaghetti takes a significant amount of time to ignite.

“When the spaghetti finally lights, it can curl over, posing a fire hazard as it may drop on toes, pets, the floor, or into the candle itself.”

there are Spotify playlists for the exact cook times of different pastas

In an effort to ensure a perfect al dente texture every time, Barilla pasta offers nine Spotify playlists tailored to the precise cook times of popular pasta varieties. Curated as a more entertaining alternative to your everyday kitchen timer, the compilations debuted in 2021, blending both English and Italian music.

There are two playlists apiece for four different pasta varieties: spaghetti, fusilli, linguine, and penne. Each playlist ranges from nine to 11 minutes, based on recommended cooking time. The most popular (based on total followers) is “Mixtape Spaghetti,” which is 9 minutes, 3 seconds in length and includes hip-hop tunes from Jay-Z and Italian rapper Ernia.

At 19 minutes, 12 seconds, the longest playlist of the bunch is the only one dedicated to an entire recipe: “Absolute Carbonara.” This film-themed mix incorporates beloved tracks from Grease, Mamma Mia!, and Guardians of the Galaxy, and is tailored to the exact amount of time you’ll need to prepare a bowl of spaghetti carbonara from start to finish.

The famous Italian violinist Niccolo Paganini was a great epicurean and pasta lover.
Most of all he preferred ravioli.
His dream, as he put it, was
“to live in the countryside, play duets and quartets and eat delicious ravioli”.

mo, mo, spaghetto.

If you go into an italian restaurant and order spaghetto, chances are you’ll leave hungry. That’s because “spaghetto” refers to just a lone pasta strand; it’s the singular form of the plural “spaghetti.” Other beloved Italian foods share this same disinction— one cannoli is a “cannolo,” and it’s a single cheese-filled “raviolo” or “panino” sandwich. Italian language rules state that a word ending in -i means it’s plural, whereas an -o or -a suffix, denotes singularity.  As for the term for the beloved pasta dish itself, “spaghetti” was inspired by the Italian word ‘spago,’ which means “twine” or “string.”

i highly doubt that i will ever be using this term, as i would have to order many spaghetto to be happy, so it’s back to spaghetti for me.
