the first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event.
you go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up
in another quite different,
and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?

Reblogged this on Smorgasbord – Variety is the spice of life and commented:
The weather here on the mountain above Madrid continues to be below freezing at night and 30 degrees in the sun and wind shade during the day.. I have never been still tanned in January and cannot believe that we will be eating outside today again.. but part of me longs to be wearing my lovely winter clothes and boots – well just for a moment… lovely image for you instead.

The Universe gave me two doses of magical white mornings–one on Christmas day while we were traveling across the country! Since it snows so infrequently in the Pacific NW, I consider it a parting gift for the girl that lived most of her life in the land of the long winters! I loved watching the snow fall. I didn’t like shoveling it, though!

With all that magic, you just need THE top hat, a scarf, a few lumps of coal and a carrot for the nose. 🙂

I am so happy to see this image! I love the magic, but miss Snow Days where there is no school (as both a child and a teacher, you could relate to this!) I love the Michigan ads that feature snow and lovely sounding descriptions, Beth! You did a great job of finding a quote and photo to create this magical and wondrous vision!

I remember the magic of a snow storm and the transformation of the world overnight. It’s great to see it that way. I miss it sometimes. Not right now. But sometimes.

That you still find the magic in the snow transition, Beth, well, good for you. Very good for you. The green or brown to white is very cool. The more white, more white, more white, dirty white, has lost the spell on me. 😦

We are bare ground again but scheduled to get some tonight and tomorrow. Eight miles north of the city, they have two feet of snow. So odd, Beth.

We get very little snow over here, so for us, we go to bed on a cold night and wake up to a wet, lashing wintery day. I have no idea how Ireland has reared so many wonderful poets with our weather!
