“it’s not our job to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world.
it’s our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless.”

I agree, Beth. It’s a pity that not all parents see it that way.

Awesome Beth and the photo is so sweet. She must be quite the organizer to get those ladies and lads all to the table at once – speaks well of her leadeship skills.

I agree completely. Children are to be protected from the world’s harshest aspects up until somewhere in adolescence and then only gradually.

This is perfect Beth. Friends of mine often comment to me that I would have an easier go of it if I weren’t so sensitive. But I’m not ready to give up on the belief that caring gentle souls can co-exist and influence the dominant culture. We’ll show them, won’t we? <3

Love this Beth! Not sure it’s because of me, but my daughter has definitely grown into a woman who cares about others. <3

So true, you can prepare anyone for anything if you love them enough, tell them the truth (judiciously), teach them how to treat others, and demonstrate the good you want them to be going forward. The little ones catch more than they are told. Be the good you want to see.

Work in progress, Beth. We try to model it everyday. Some days are better than others and I think okay, here are my citizens of the world; compassionate and kind. Then there are others…. Hmmmm.

I believe that children will have to toughen up as they go through life and parents just have to support them all the way, correct them when they swerve but never control them..
