pandora cued up a classic ccr song for me on the way home
windows down sun shining warm spring air
thinking of this quote that i just love:
“We were ready to rock out and we waited and waited and finally it was our turn … there were a half million people asleep. These people were out. It was sort of like a painting of a Dante scene, just bodies from hell, all intertwined and asleep, covered with mud. And this is the moment I will never forget as long as I live: A quarter mile away in the darkness, on the other edge of this bowl, there was some guy flicking his Bic, and in the night I hear, “Don’t worry about it, John. We’re with you.” I played the rest of the show for that guy.
—John Fogerty recalling Creedence Clearwater Revival’s 3:30 a.m. start time at Woodstock.”

what an amazing moment: that is magic —

Ah, Woodstock. I saw the film of that in a London cinema when I was 18. I enjoyed it so much I went again the following week.
Best wishes, Pete.

I am always playing snippets from “Woodstock” and CCR has always been a favourite of mine.
“Describing Woodstock as the “big bang,” I think that’s a great way to describe it, because the important thing about it wasn’t how many people were there or that it was a lot of truly wonderful music that got played.” ~ David Crosby

yay! thanks for this, Ivor. I wish I had been a bit older when it happened, as I’m sure I would have found my way there, though who knows how it would have gone )

You would have made it even ‘bigger’ … Here in Victoria/Australia we the “Sunbury” concert … I was in the crowd … somewhere …

I love that story! The big has been replaced with the light from an iPhone or other portable le device, the bite message is exactly the same: we are out here enjoying the music you bring us! Oh, and one night at 1am, in a tiny bar in Tokyo, the young Japanese bartender was laying album tracks by Creedence…talk about timeless music that travelled the world!

I spent a weekend in Woodstock five years ago and we obsessed about watching everything to do about the event. That was the one quote that stuck out for me, too. Love this.

I was the only guy in my generation who did not attend Woodstock. At least I think I wasn’t there.

I was a few years too old to want to make it from OKC to Woodstock. But I loved the idea of it.

Wow! I want to be the guy with the Bic. What a great story. Can you imagine going on stage in the middle of the night with the whole audience asleep, and there’s one guy to light the way? Hats off to CCR and John Fogerty, and the guy with the Bic.
