glittery wheel of misfortune.

when my laptop charger suddenly stopped working

and I couldn’t get it to fit snuggly into

the magnetic biggish hole thing with the connector dots on the one side of my computer

(technical jargon)

I reluctantly made a trip to the apple store and bought a new charger

I took it home, tried to plug it in, and got the same results.

I then took it to my local guys who work on apple stuff

asked how much it would be to replace that part

and instead of giving me a price

one grabbed a pair of tweezers

and pulled something out of it

saying

“it should work just fine now.

it looks like a tiny piece of.metal,  glitter? somehow got in the hole.”

well, come to think of it,  I have had a few glitter ‘incidents’

where it was stuck to me or other people around me or on things…

so –

price for the tweezer instant repair method. free.

glitter again/still.

i went to the u of m dermo clinic

for my annual skin checkup

and remembered

just how thorough they were

when 3 different docs

checked me out. 

the first one asked,

“did you know that you have some glitter stuck to your back?’

the second one asked,

“how did you get glitter in your hair?”

and finally, the third, the resident doc asked,

“did you know that you have glitter on your feet?”

i think they all imagined that i’d been to a wild party

or secretly am a dancer as my second job

i really couldn’t attribute it to working with the kinders

now that it’s summer break.

i  told all of them that i wasn’t really surprised

that it’s always on me somewhere

thanked them for letting me know

and for another clean bill of health.

i think it lightened things up a bit in their clinic.

after spending weeks

immersed in the world of fairy and folk tales

the fairy tea party

with magic apple tea, served in tiny teacups

and

fairy bread with sprinkles, unicorn cookies,

giant strawberries, and sparkly cupcakes

all served on real china 

waits

ready to be discovered

by the kinder fairy -folk

upon their return from the tower.

glitt-her.

(yet another underpaid re-enactor)

when at the salon recently

my stylist was combing out my hair and asked:

“why do you have glitter in your hair?”

now, there are many possible scenarios

some more accepted than others

but i suppose in my case

it most likely has to do with

my being

a kindy teacher

a creator of mixed-media collage art

and

a fan of glitter

and i see

that a pattern

has begun to emerge

when family and friends and colleagues

and even my cat

quite often have glitter on them

after spending time with me

and my grandson mentions

that he always finds glitter stuck to him

after we’ve been hanging out together

and people sometimes

brush glitter off of their legs

after getting out of my car

but

some people leave footprints

and

some people leave glitter

and that’s how you know

they’ve been there.
