no, this is not another johnny cochran quote from that infamous trial, it is my motto for the day. another day, another day towards restoring my health. i’ve decided to go ahead and go on a long weekend getaway with my longtime girlfriends to the music friendly city of nashville, meds in tow, and super bugs be damned. i see this adventure as a sure to get well cure. i’ll keep you posted )
my immune system must have been sleeping, for i woke up fighting strep throat and sinus infections simultaneously, both in hardcore aggressive mode. researched my prescribed antibiotic and now i’m feeling better at last, at least psychologically. here is what it is capable of fighting:
– strep throat
– sinusitis
– typhoid
– cholera
– lyme disease
– malaria
-and an festive variety of std’s
wow, who knew? i am now armed and ready to take on pretty much any disaster )
i was 6, and my middle sister and i shared a best friend. school was out and the whole summer was ahead for the 3 of us, with nothing to do but enjoy it together. our vision came to an abrupt halt when we found out that our best friend in the world was heading off on a vacation with her family to a far-off land called, ‘wisconsin.’ we couldn’t bear to be away from each other and so we came up with a plan to stay connected even though we might find ourselves in different states. we spent all day and gathered up every bit of string and yarn and twine we could find. we spent hours tying them all together to create ‘the world’s giantestbiggestlongeststrongest string ever.’
soon the big day arrived, the day of their departure. as our friend and her family drove off, she was sitting backwards in her family station wagon and she kept the back window down. she held tightly onto one end of our magical string, while we stood on the street in front of her house holding onto the other end. after about 100 feet, at the corner, the string broke. my sister and i stood there dumbfounded and a bit sad as we realized our plan had not worked out as we expected. we could only imagine what she was feeling. when she returned 2 weeks later, we all laughed about it and went on with our summer together. the most wonderful thing is that through many years and many states and many life events, including the death of my sister, we still remain friends, like sisters, and forever tied together.
it was camping day today and when the children checked out the cool bear cub our room, i was reminded of the different approaches that boys and girls each have to life. as the girls went up to it, they gently petted it and commented, ‘it’s so soft!’ as the boys approached it, they all bent their heads down to look under its legs and asked, ‘does it have a penis?’ and herein lies the difference –
life experiences, good, bad, and otherwise, during a whirlwind weekend, helping my niece find a house to rent for her upcoming grad school stint in toledo, ohio.
– ‘siri’ on my phone gets testy, and says, ‘i don’t know what you are asking, do you want me to look that up for you?’, and know we will have to sweet-talk her from here on out.
– our day begins in toledo with a stop at a local breakfast spot to meet a kind friend to give us neighborhood advice, and we get to choose between such selections as: ‘uncle moose’s manhandler’ and a ‘bounty of the sea’ breakfast crepe, and you just know it is going to be a wonderful day.
– when my niece, being from sweet, small towns in arizona begins to understand that we are in a city, and can base our ‘good and bad neighborhoods’ decision on how many people are out on the streets and not working, or perhaps making deals on the street, it will be a life-lesson kind of day.
– we see a random sign for a house on a pretty street and are met there by miss lillian, an 86 year old firecracker, dressed in flowered pants and full of life. this house is a jewel on a beautiful street, safe and calm and a bike ride to school. we do a 30 second drive by tour of the campus and it is lovely and the sun is shining.after we take care of 657 other details, like where are we going to get the money, we make a deal and head back to a surprise party that i’ve planned but will now be very late for. it has been a weekend filled many special moments.
where we spent our lovely spring afternoon in toledo, ohio – even the owner is laughing
perfect for the discerning tastes of our 3-5 year olds?
Good Day All,
Just a reminder that tomorrow will be our “Chef 2 School” program and we will be featuring “World of Cheeses”. Once again we will set up in the back hallway behind the small dining room and I will be coming around to release the tables to visit our “World of Cheeses”.
We are also excited to say that this time we plan on including the Early Childhood Center with a cart that will go from table to table with samples of different cheeses.
Sincerely,
HJ
