a rude awakening.

Standard

what a wonderful way to relax

ending a long day with a beautiful book

all about finding your comfort

settling in at last

not a care in the world

tucked into my warm cocoon

until

the book’s spell

works a little too well on me

and i am very suddenly and very rudely awakened

right out of my comfort zone

after falling asleep and dropping the book on my face

hard.

it should come with a warning.

“littera scripta manet – ‘the written word will remain’. that’s true, but it won’t be that much comfort to me.’

-christopher hitchens

until they wake.

’twas new year’s eve at the lake house

and two of our

fellow celebratory foot soldiers

and their loyal dog were down

though they made a miraculous comeback

returning to the fray for the midnight hour

and it was something to behold.

“forgive me if I sleep until I wake up. “

wake up call

very recently – warm and easy near the equator, nice way to wake up,

with a call from the sea, bringing news of a day,

where the biggest question is which size coconut to choose.

and even more recently –  warm and tucked in, home again in the great white north,  nice way to wake up,

with a call from the weather robot, bringing news of a snow day off of school

where the biggest question is which size down comforter to choose.
