high tide.

Standard

after

a lot, a lot, a lot

of rain

the river rose high

up and over

paths washed out

nice to intersect

where the land met the water

with this very happy dad

following his wife and son

in kayaks

making their way

through what was very recently

a grassy playground

on island park

 paddling through to the river

“ever think you’d find yourself paddling here?”

“no, but i’m so, so happy that i am!”

“celebrate the success of others. high tide floats all ships.”

lottery.

Standard

i stopped to fill up with gas

and grab a cup of coffee

when heading out of town

and home once more.

as i paid and told

the very happy and chatty clerk

to have a good day

he glanced across the street

at the beautiful view he sees each day

and thanked me for reminding him

because every day was good

and especially today

because today was the day

that he was going to win the lottery

but somehow i thought that he already had.

“i count myself lucky,

having long ago won a lottery paid to me

in seven sunrises a week for life.”

rain or shine?

Standard

cold, morning rain does little but make one anxious to reach their destination, even if that is work or school. this innovative student solved the problem of hands free walking on one such campus morning in 1969. “U-M engineering student gary keck of detroit is too unconventional to raise an umbrella. he wards off the morning rain with a stylish sombrero. ole!”

“optimists are neither in denial nor naïve about challenges and difficulties in life.

they simply attend to and acknowledge the positive.”
