“i’m hoping this matter will not involve my eagerness to help you.”- joel

and yet another encounter with a customer service rep

this was the rest of our live chat conversation

once joel and i reached an impasse with no solution:

Joel: Still with me?
Me: yes
Joel: Will there be anything else I can assist you with?
Me: no, thank you anyway
Joel: I’m hoping that this matter will not involve my eagerness to help you.
Joel: Hope you had a great rest of your day.

(somehow i really had hoped that joel would have involved his eagerness to help me…)

a clock that forces you to do math to find out the time

The Albert Clock is no simple timepiece. In fact, it requires you to think pretty hard. It will tell you the time of day, but only if you can do the math to read it, as Nerdist reports.

Designed by the Paris-based Axel Schindlbeck, the clock is meant to be a mental workout, providing the mathematical calisthenics you need to keep your number skills sharp. It’s technically designed for classrooms and kids, but adults need to practice their multiplication tables regularly, too.

The digital clock has four different levels to help you ramp up your addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division abilities over time. For a real challenge, you can program it to change equations more often than every minute, so you’re presented with a new time-telling puzzle every 10 seconds.

The wall-mounted clock retails for about $300, but you can also download a mobile version of the design for free. It will make you yearn for the simplicity of analog clocks in no time.

(if i had to wake up to this, i might opt for just using the sun or wildly guessing instead)

i ran into this cheerful couple while waiting my turn in an insurance office. they seemed well-matched and quite happy. i think i overheard one of them say to the other: ‘You got a past, I do too. We’re perfect for each other.’

with yet another day of below zero temps and flying snow, i have warm memories of baby v and lewis the cat, as they crossed paths last summer at my favorite garden store, just a beautiful walk away from the cottage.

i’m just going to stop over for a minute and tell lewis something.

the holiday show must go on!

Standard

baby b performs a live version of ‘jingle bells’ on her new stand-up mike, only to encounter a lot of action/distraction in the audience and soon realizes that her agent has booked her into a ‘garden level’ holiday party room and she is playing to a tough crowd.

while singing, she is competing for attention with: a big screen tv airing a holiday film, baby j grabbing the mike and trying to eat it when she is stops to adjust her sound system (she is also her own roadie), cousin baby v, stepping in and clapping in the middle of her song, checking to see if she can have a go at the mike, a neighbor baby audience member tipping over and toddling by into the circus tent behind her, baby r jumping around near the couch on the lounge level, as her discounted obstructed view ticket has placed her behind a pole and a massive gift box, and most everyone else who has had a glass or two of a delicious holiday beverage.  baby b however, takes it all in, is unfazed, and continues on with the show.

“Between you and every goal that you wish to achieve, there is a series of obstacles, and the bigger the goal, the bigger the obstacles. Your decision to be, have and do something out of the ordinary entails facing difficulties and challenges that are out of the ordinary as well. Sometimes your greatest asset is simply your ability to stay with it longer than anyone else.”  Brian Tracy
