‘there is a harmony in autumn, and a luster in its sky.’

i’m not sure about today’s
hail, rain, snow, sun, wind, lightning, and thunder.
i suppose some could classify these as ‘luster’,
but probably not ‘harmony.’
“october is the month for painted leaves….
as fruits and leaves and the day itself acquire a bright tint just before they fall,
so the year near its setting.
october is its sunset sky; november the later twilight.’

We lost 38 seconds of daylight yesterday. By the end of the month, we’ll be losing over 2 minutes each day and by the end of next month, nearly 20 minutes per week. Here’s what you can expect as you savor the waning days of Michigan’s warm season:
July: -45 minutes lost
August: -1 hour 16 minutes lost
September: -1 hour 22 minutes lost
October: -1 hour 23 minutes lost
November: -1 hour 1 minute lost
It won’t be long until you have an extra 6 hours of darkness to spend on your indoor hobbies. Have a great Monday.

mixed feelings
when walking inside from another round of snow
and being greeted by a 4th of july display
at least i have my sandals on
with my long down coat
“there are certain odd times and occasions
in this strange mixed affair we call life
when a man takes his whole universe for a vast practical joke.”

on the spring equinox

Today
if ever there were a spring day so perfect,
so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze
that it made you want to throw
open all the windows in the house
and unlatch the door to the canary’s cage,
indeed, rip the little door from its jamb,
a day when the cool brick paths
and the garden bursting with peonies
seemed so etched in sunlight
that you felt like taking
a hammer to the glass paperweight
on the living room end table,
releasing the inhabitants
from their snow-covered cottage
so they could walk out,
holding hands and squinting
into this larger dome of blue and white,
well, today is just that kind of day.

march.
storming in like a buffalo
and out like a wing?
“february makes a bridge and march breaks it. “
