 The Sun is a departure from Munch’s darker themes, focusing instead on themes of light, life force, and energy through intense, radiating colors.

It is a monumental work, measuring approximately 4.5 meters high by 7.8 meters wide, originally created for the Oslo University assembly hall.

  3. I’ve used that Munch image with some of my poems. I was amazed the first time I saw it. The Philadelphia Museum of Art has a Munch painting called Mermaid. Also a bit different from much of his work.
    Another good quote from Serling.

  28. how come I didn’t know that Munch did ‘sun’ paintings too – he was always so ‘desperate, dark, without hope’ – and now this. And so monumental! Thanks for sharing, a fantastic scene and one I’d probably spend far too much time viewing (instead of going to classes)…. and a great quote too.
