off to the nunnery.

Standard

so off i go today

to the convent

where i’ll stay and meet up with

my sister and my aunt who is a sister

relax, talk, walk, meditate, share meals, laugh, cry, remember, tell stories

see her sacred and important places

shared spaces

if i was a nun

i imagine myself

singing and running through the hills

like sister maria in the alps

but i think this spring break

slow and easy

may be exactly perfect

a time of rest and renewal.

“get thee to a nunnery, go.”

break. (not my finger)

Standard

i’m on winter break

and i’d say that i’m most like

the accordian-playing raccoon on the tree stump

or

the twirling hedgehog in a forest-rave mindset.

and

later someone sleeping behind that tiny red tree door.

“the christmas season is upon us – a time for reading, dancing and all joyous festivities!”

long weekend.

Standard

on the long weekend

some of everything

sharing a spaghetti dinner with family

relaxing with friends at the lake

by the fire

waking up to a morning moon

a visit to the renaissance festival

cavorting with royalty, vikings, faerie folk, gnomes, jesters, magicians, musicians, artisans, knights, peasants, horses, dogs, dancers, warriors, barbarians, huns, lords and ladies…

and on the third day, she rested.

“on a long weekend, the possibilities are endless,

and we have the freedom to do as much or as little as we please.”

– unknown

completely pointless.

Standard

(painting of a talented model who is not me,

but could be a close match

if i only knew how to play the piano, read music, and was cheeky monkey.)

sunday is my very favorite day for doing something pointless or absolutely nothing.

“weekends don’t count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless.”

lazy in las vegas.

Standard

floating down the lazy river in the middle of the desert.

“most people think of las vegas, and they think of extravagance.

but it’s really a mix between fantasy and laziness.”

destination: fun.

Standard

when you have a barbie head on your dash

and a beachball in the back seat

it’s clear you are headed

for destination: fun.

“you must not ever stop being whimsical.

and you must not, ever, give anyone else the responsibility for your life.”

-mary oliver, wild geese

a rude awakening.

Standard

what a wonderful way to relax

ending a long day with a beautiful book

all about finding your comfort

settling in at last

not a care in the world

tucked into my warm cocoon

until

the book’s spell

works a little too well on me

and i am very suddenly and very rudely awakened

right out of my comfort zone

after falling asleep and dropping the book on my face

hard.

it should come with a warning.

“littera scripta manet – ‘the written word will remain’. that’s true, but it won’t be that much comfort to me.’

-christopher hitchens

*concert!

Standard

“Tonight! A big forest concert under the direction of Musical Director Woodpecker!”

*(just because we all need a fluffy forest concert break about now)

“i’m afraid concerts spoil people for everyday life.”

slow down.

Standard

“let your children see you slow down.

read a book, walk in the woods,

sip coffee in the early hours of the morning.

because when they grow up,

they’ll know how to slow down, too.”

no hurry, no worry.

we shall get there someday.”
