is it my imagination
or are
gargoyles
beginning
to look
more human
these days?
–
“in fact, i have never met anyone who didn’t like gargoyles.”
-keith david
yes
i made another attempt
at keeping the brownies
in the pan
for more than
half an hour.
this time
as i was
tapping off
the
extra
powdered sugar
on top
almost all
of
the perfect batch
followed the sugar
right
into the trash
so
i brought what was left to the party
and
had to call on
my wheel of cheese
for backup.

“it’s the mishaps that make it fun, and brings you the surprise.”
-anna wintour
it amazing to watch
as the lightbulb goes on
and
the transformation begins
when
those who have long names
quickly learn
to adopt
a shorter nickname
that they suddenly really love
(but only when written down)
once they have to
go through the process
of writing it all out.
—
sebastian becomes ‘seb’
elizabeth becomes ‘liz’
anniston becomes ‘ana’
christian becomes ‘chris’
and then
there is always
the one
who gets caught up in the spirit of things
and
jumps on
the shortcut bandwagon
just because
like when
kim becomes ‘km’.

“working hard and working smart
sometimes can be two different things.”
-byron dorgan
as another school year
draws to a close
my time on the bus
is almost over
and
i think
i’ll miss
all the action:
who sits with who
who lost their coat
who forgot their bag
who needs a band-aid
who has the wrong bag
who sat by the window last
who didn’t bring their boots
who has trouble sitting at all
who was supposed to stay at school
who is crying, laughing, squealing, bouncing?
it might be me.

“i’d rather go by bus.”
