playing the odds, you win some……

Standard

(supposed to be here)

back in the day

when i was a waitress

going to school

training to be in the travel industry

i was on call for my restaurant in michigan

but i also had to be at an airline travel class in dallas

my restaurant had very recently said

absolutely no more days off for anyone

too many people were calling in sick or with excuses

so

according to my optimistic rationalization style math and logic

knowing the staff

having no other plan

odds were 50/50 at best

i said nothing to my restaurant

crossed my fingers

flew to dallas

made the fateful call-in from the lone star state

 amazingly

the staff had all shown up that day

for the win!

p.s. don’t try this if you are a doctor

(actually was here)

daily specials.

Standard

(not my breakfast, but how i imagine it to look if i had ordered the daily specials)

how fun to discover

that one of my favorite breakfast places

has changed up their menu a bit

(maybe now that the students are back on campus?)

adding 11 ‘breakfast beers’

and a daily special of

cake and ice cream

“celebrate everyday like your birthday!”

what’s not to celebrate?

“i discovered a meal between breakfast and brunch.”

and of course

the ever popular

went out on taco tuesday

for a

family fiesta

all tacos were just one dollar

and

when we got the menu

we saw

the new ‘surprise filling’ option

kind of scary and intriguing at the same time

we asked our server as instructed

“what’s it going to be today?”

but

alas

it wasn’t available

they ran out of it

must have been very popular

but

couldn’t they have

just combined things

and

made one up?

how would we know the difference?

raisins, mashed potatoes, and green jello?

or

watermelon rinds, blue cheese, and kit-kat bars?

or

whatever they found in the kitchen?

if there were mexican fortune cookies

i expect that mine would have read:

“expect nothing. live frugally on surprise.”
