“walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things.

it is the one way of freedom.

if you go to a place on anything but your own feet

you are taken there too fast,

and miss a thousand delicate joys

that were waiting for you by the wayside. “

along for the ride.

Standard

on last night’s walk downtown

i was behind a person who was

giving a skeleton a piggyback ride

heading to the polls?

“i just enjoy being along for the ride.”

bear in the woods.

Standard

ran into this guy

when out walking

 frozen in place

i tried to remember

what to do

if i ever was

to meet a bear in the woods

run, play dead, make myself large, make noise

 or

take a picture

leave it in the trees

for the child who left it behind

now, missing it.

“he looked all alone

and so sad and so blue,

so I said, “oh, dear bear;

there’s a home here for you.”

“your cadence is your music” – william shatner

Standard

on a walk in the beautiful early fall weather

taking in a bit of the world

listening to music

a man came up beside me to say

‘you have quite a cadence.’

something i’d never heard or considered

 such a funny compliment

and happily noted.

“to brisk notes in cadence beating, glance their many-twinkling feet.”

sink right in.

Standard

walking with the grandies

they are mesmerized

by the carpet of tiny flowers in the grass

and sink right in.

little ponies.

Standard

with the return of the beautiful weather

it seemed like a good time

to also return to shorter pants and smooth legs

in my enthusiastic state

no need for directions

no need for glasses

i quickly replaced the blade cartridge in my razor

tried it, and nothing.

looked more closely and realized

i had put it on upside down

so rather than

fixing it and turning it the right way

my go-to move

was to go in the opposite direction

shaving from ankle to knee

with great results

until

i noticed some blood

apparently this technique

is not quite as efficient and gentle

as i had imagined

then there was even more blood

and more

luckily

i had my little pony bandaids at the ready

patched up all my places that needed patching

 set off for my walk

thanks, ponies

luckily i am not a barber.

that is the great work.

make it feel good, is a great skill. “
